Ways this PSA completely, utterly fails:
- near-naked, faceless, disembodied women’s torso = dehumanization of women
- euphemizing rape as “having sex” in an anti-rape campaign
- implying the “first place you enter” is the victim’s body = more dehumanization
- low rape conviction rates means prison not much of a deterrent for rapists
“What we’re left with, then, is an ostensible anti-rape campaign whose only success is more deeply entrenching tools and language of the rape culture. Huzzah.”
